Originally built in 1859, the building was established as a museum in 1961. Originally a blacksmith and carriage shop, its forges, bellows and handmade iron tools remain in their original setting. The life and work of the people are reflected in the ingenious tools and gadgets, toys and clothing, documents and letters. Artifacts of local business and industry, culture and entertainment are also well represented. Our most treasured item is the imposing eleven foot tall Statue of Justice, carved in 1844 from a single white cedar tree. She graced the roof of the County Court House in Brockville until 1956, when she had to be removed due to deterioration. Each year, we have special displays over the summer showing items of historical value.
